Cookie Policy
The short version
- We use a small number of cookies. Most of them exist to keep the site working — showing kick-off times in your timezone, and protecting forms from abuse.
- We use Google Analytics to count visits and understand which pages are useful. These cookies only load if you allow them.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not run advertising or profiling cookies on this site.
- You can withdraw your consent at any time using the button in section 7. It takes one click and no explanation is required.
- Refusing non-essential cookies does not limit anything you can read or use on Betiball.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. When you come back, the browser sends that file back, which is how a site can remember something about your previous visit — a language choice, for instance, or the fact that you already dismissed a notice.
This policy also covers technologies that behave like cookies without technically being one: local storage, session storage, and pixels. Where we use any of these, they are listed in the tables below alongside the cookies. Betiball uses local storage and session storage only for features you use yourself — your favourites, dark mode and goal-alert sounds — and never for tracking. Every key is listed in the tables below. Betiball does not use tracking pixels.
Cookies fall into two useful distinctions:
- First-party cookies are set by betiball.com itself. Third-party cookies are set by another company whose code runs on our pages.
- Session cookies are deleted when you close the browser. Persistent cookies stay until they expire or you delete them.
2. Who is responsible for your data
Betiball is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. That means we decide why and how it is processed, and we are the organisation you can hold to account for it.
- Organisation: Betiball
- Registered office: Rowsley Street, Manchester, Lancashire, M11 3FF, United Kingdom
- Email: info@betiball.com
- Contact form: Contact Us
How we handle personal data more broadly — not only cookies — is set out in our Privacy Policy.
3. The four categories we use
Every cookie on Betiball belongs to exactly one of the four categories below. The distinction matters because it determines whether we need your permission before setting it.
Strictly necessary
These make the site function. They keep your session alive, protect forms against cross-site request forgery, and let our security provider tell a person apart from an automated script. They are set without asking, because the site cannot be delivered without them — this is the narrow exemption that ePrivacy law allows. You can still block them in your browser, but parts of the site will stop working.
Analytics
These count visits and tell us which pages get read and which get ignored. We use them to decide what to build next — for example, which leagues deserve deeper statistical coverage. They only load after you agree. Data is aggregated; we do not use it to identify you personally.
Preferences
These remember a choice you made so the site behaves the way you left it — most importantly, which timezone kick-off times should be displayed in. Only set once you actively change a setting, and only after you have accepted this category.
Advertising and profiling
Betiball does not currently use any cookie in this category. We do not run advertising networks, we do not build behavioural profiles, and we do not share data with advertisers. This category is listed so that the policy is complete and so that you can see it is empty rather than merely unmentioned. If that ever changes, this page and the consent banner will be updated before any such cookie is set, and your existing consent will be re-requested rather than assumed.
4. Full cookie list
This is the complete list, verified against a live inspection of the site. Cookie names ending in a random-looking string, such as _ga_F7FTW1DXH3, contain an identifier for our specific analytics property and will be identical for every visitor.
Strictly necessary — set without consent
| Cookie name | Provider | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
XSRF-TOKEN | Betiball first-party | Carries a per-session security token that proves a form submission genuinely came from your browser and not from a malicious page on another site. Without it, login and contact forms are rejected. | 2 hours | HTTP cookie |
laravel_session | Betiball first-party | Holds the reference to your server-side session. Required for logging in, for keeping a favourites list attached to your account, and for anything that has to survive from one page to the next. | 2 hours | HTTP cookie, HttpOnly |
__cf_bm | Cloudflare, Inc. third-party | Distinguishes human visitors from automated traffic. Betiball receives a very high volume of scraping activity, and this cookie is part of how that is filtered without blocking real readers. | 30 minutes | HTTP cookie, HttpOnly |
_cfuvid | Cloudflare, Inc. third-party | Groups requests coming from the same visitor so that our rate limits apply per person rather than per shared network address. Contains no information that identifies you. | Session | HTTP cookie, HttpOnly |
cf_clearance | Cloudflare, Inc. third-party | Set only if you are shown a security check and pass it. Records that the check was completed so you are not asked again on every page. | 30 minutes | HTTP cookie, HttpOnly |
bb_consent | Betiball first-party | Records your cookie choice: which optional categories you accepted or refused, when, and the version of this policy in force. Without it we would have to ask you on every page. | 12 months | HTTP cookie |
theme | Betiball first-party | Remembers whether you switched the site to dark mode. Written only when you use the dark mode switch. | Until you clear it | Local storage |
my_fav_matches_v1my_fav_leagues_v1 | Betiball first-party | Your favourite matches and leagues, kept on your own device so the Favourites page works without an account. Written only when you add a favourite. | Until you clear it | Local storage |
fifaRankingFavTeamIds | Betiball first-party | Teams you starred on the FIFA ranking page. Written only when you star a team. | Until you clear it | Local storage |
betiball:odds-market-focus:* | Betiball first-party | Keeps the odds market you selected in view when a league page reloads. | Until you close the tab | Session storage |
Analytics — only after you agree
| Cookie name | Provider | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Ireland Limited third-party | Assigns a randomly generated identifier to your browser so that repeat visits can be counted as one visitor rather than several. This is what allows us to distinguish 100 people reading one page each from one person reading 100 pages. | 13 months | HTTP cookie |
_ga_F7FTW1DXH3 | Google Ireland Limited third-party | Holds the session state for our Google Analytics 4 property (ID G-F7FTW1DXH3). Records when a visit started and how many pages were viewed within it. | 13 months | HTTP cookie |
_gid | Google Ireland Limited third-party | Distinguishes visitors within a single 24-hour window. Set by some Google Analytics configurations alongside the cookies above. | 24 hours | HTTP cookie |
Preferences — only after you agree
| Cookie name | Provider | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
setting_timezone_resolved | Betiball first-party | Stores the timezone used to display kick-off times, so a 20:00 match in London shows correctly whether you are reading from Manchester, São Paulo or Ho Chi Minh City. Holds a timezone name such as Europe/London and nothing else. | 1 year | HTTP cookie |
setting_timezone | Betiball first-party | The timezone you chose in Settings, or automatic detection from your device. | 1 year | HTTP cookie |
setting_coef | Betiball first-party | The odds format you chose. | 1 year | HTTP cookie |
setting_notification_scope | Betiball first-party | Whether goal alerts cover all matches or only your favourites. | 1 year | HTTP cookie |
setting_home_goal_soundsetting_away_goal_sound | Betiball first-party | The alert sound you picked for home and away goals. | 1 year (cookie); until you clear it (local storage) | HTTP cookie and local storage |
Advertising and profiling
5. Third parties and international transfers
Two companies other than Betiball can set cookies through this site. Neither of them buys data from us or receives anything we have not described above.
| Company | What they do for us | Where data goes | Their policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Ireland Limited Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland | Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager. Measures how the site is used. | Processed in the EU and may be transferred to the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension, together with Standard Contractual Clauses. | Google privacy |
| Cloudflare, Inc. 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA | Content delivery, security filtering and protection against automated scraping. | Processed at the network edge location nearest to you. Transfers to the United States are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses. | Cloudflare privacy |
Where personal data leaves the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, we rely on the transfer mechanisms named above. You can request a copy of the relevant safeguards by writing to info@betiball.com.
6. Legal basis for each category
Under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR, we need a lawful reason to process your data. For cookies, the relevant law is also the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, which is stricter: it requires consent for anything that is not strictly necessary, regardless of whether the data is personal.
| Category | Legal basis | Consent required? | What happens if you refuse |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Legitimate interests — delivering a secure, functioning website that you have asked to view | No | Cannot be refused through the banner. Blocking them in your browser will break logging in and form submission. |
| Analytics | Consent | Yes | Nothing. Every page remains fully readable and every feature keeps working. We simply lose the ability to count your visit. |
| Preferences | Consent | Yes | Kick-off times fall back to a default timezone and will not be remembered between visits. |
| Advertising | Not applicable — none in use | — | — |
7. Managing your choices
You can change or withdraw your consent whenever you like. Withdrawing is exactly as easy as giving it — one click, no reason needed, and no consequence for the rest of your visit. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of anything processed before you withdrew it.
How your choice is recorded
When you make a choice, we store a record of it so that we do not ask you again on every page, and so that we can demonstrate to a regulator that consent was actually given. That record contains the categories you accepted or rejected, the date and time, and the version of this policy in force at that moment. It contains nothing that identifies you personally.
We ask again after 12 months, or sooner if we add a cookie that falls outside what you previously agreed to.
8. Controlling cookies in your browser
Independently of anything on this site, your browser can block or delete cookies for every website you visit. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent parts of Betiball from working, and blocking cookies everywhere tends to make many sites behave oddly.
Google also offers a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics across all websites, not only this one.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We honour the Global Privacy Control signal. If your browser or extension sends it, we treat it as a refusal of all non-essential cookies and you will not be shown the consent banner. The older Do Not Track header has no agreed meaning across the industry and we do not rely on it — use the button in section 7 or Global Privacy Control instead.
9. Your rights
If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, you have the following rights over personal data we hold about you:
- Access — ask for a copy of what we hold.
- Rectification — have inaccurate data corrected.
- Erasure — ask us to delete it.
- Restriction — ask us to stop using it while a dispute is resolved.
- Portability — receive it in a machine-readable format.
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Withdrawal of consent — at any time, using the button in section 7.
To exercise any of these, email info@betiball.com. We respond within two working days and complete the request within one month, as the law requires. We will not charge you and we will not ask why.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your request, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK supervisory authority. If you are in the EEA, you may complain to the supervisory authority in your own country. You do not need our permission and you do not need to raise it with us first — although we would rather you gave us the chance to put it right.
10. Changes to this policy
When we add, remove or change a cookie, we update this page and change the date at the top before the change goes live — not afterwards. If a change means processing something you have not already agreed to, we ask for your consent again rather than assuming the old one still covers it.
We review this page at least once every six months even when nothing has changed, so that the tables above stay accurate rather than drifting out of date.
