An expected total of 3.1 does not mean the match was predicted to finish with exactly 3.1 goals. It represents a statistical central estimate around a distribution of possible outcomes.

Expected total above 2.5

This can support an Over preference, but the relationship between expected total and Over probability is not one-to-one.

Expected total close to 2.5

This usually indicates a more finely balanced match where the Over and Under probabilities may sit close together.

Expected total below 2.5

This can support an Under preference while still allowing three or more goals to occur.

How Far the Actual Goal Total Finished from the Line

Recording the distance from the 2.5 threshold can add useful historical context.

A two-goal result is only one goal away from becoming Over, while a 0-0 result lies much further below the threshold. Both settle Under but describe different match environments.

Final Score Matters More Than the Winning Team

Over/Under 2.5 measures combined scoring rather than match result.
